AN INVITATION TO THE ANIMAL KINGDOM.

One of 17 megadiverse countries in the world, India is incredibly rich in wildlife and birds. There are 103 national parks and 537 wildlife sanctuaries in India, out of which 37 national parks and 137 wildlife sanctuaries are located in India’s eastern belt.

Within this belt, Northeast India deserves special mention for its abundant flora and fauna. Supporting the world’s highest density of the Royal Bengal Tiger (Kaziranga National Park) and the One-horned Rhinoceros (Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary), Northeast India is also home to more than 850 species of birds, including hornbills, White-winged Wood Duck, Firetailed Myzornis, Bengal Florican and Temminck’s Tragopan, making this region one of the most biodiverse in the country.

In addition to India’s eastern belt, other areas of the country are also notable for their diversity in flora and fauna.

Central India has many renowned national parks – such as Bandhavgarh, Pench, Kanha and Satpura national parks – that present ample opportunity to spot tigers, gaur, nilgai and chital.

Gir National Park, in West India, is the only home of the Asiatic lion and is considered to be one of the most important protected areas in Asia.

Ranthambore National Park, in Northwest India, is one of the best places in India to spot big cats, and Periyar National Park, in South India, is an important elephant and tiger reserve.
